Nominations Requested for Lithium Battery Safety Advisory Committee
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is soliciting nominees for a new Lithium Battery Safety Advisory Committee. Nominations from across the transportation and manufacturing industries are encouraged.
“The Department is seeking experts from diverse technical and transportation backgrounds to evaluate safety improvements for the transportation of lithium batteries,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.
The committee will facilitate communication among:
- Manufacturers of lithium ion and lithium metal cells and batteries
- Manufacturers of products incorporating both large and small lithium ion and lithium metal batteries
- Air carriers
- Federal government
This communication will promote the safe transportation of lithium ion and lithium metal cells and batteries. It will also improve the effectiveness, as well as the economic and social impacts, of related regulation.
Those interested must submit nominations within 21 days of the Federal Register publication date. For further information, see the announcement as submitted to the Federal Register.
